Children International Philippines

Quezon City, Philippines

Established in 1936, Children International (CI) is a US-based NGO that helps impoverished children through sponsorship. It currently helps over 300,000 children globally and in the Philippines around 80,000 children through various programs in health, nutrition, education, material aid, and youth empowerment. These programs and services are carried out through the sponsorship operating agencies (SOA) in Quezon City, Manila, Legazpi, and Tabaco. Each SOA then operates through the Service Area Centers which are located within the communities.

Having started the program in 2010, CI Philippines has introduced Aflatoun to over 1700 children and youth from 5-12 years old and 16-19 years old. They implement Aflatoun in formal and non-formal education settings. CI Philippines pioneered Aflatoun for pre-school by adapting the age-appropriate workbooks and children’s activity book, and developing a facilitator’s manual. Children have organized Aflatoun activities like a reading hour conducted in the schools and centers, and an awareness campaign on waste segregation.
