Science for Environment Foundation (SEF) is an independent non-governmental not-for-profit organisation in Poland. SEF focuses on sustainable development utilising the scientific and research potential as well as the local resources available. Its strength lies in scientific research and organising activities in the field of youth, local development and alternative tourism.
SEF started with the Aflatoun programme in 2009. They have tripled their number of children last year going from 1,280 Aflatoun children in 2015 to 3,720 children in 2016. 1,311 of them are involved in social enterprises. SEF is implementing the programme through 145 trained social workers, integrated in the programme Choose the future.
The group of trained workers is introducing social and financial education based on the Aflatoun manual adapted by SEF. They are organising practical workshops for children and youth up to 25 years old, who are at risk from social exclusion, including those who are leaving their foster families or other childcare facilities. They started lobbying with social services to include the Aflatoun programme as one of the tools that social workers could use when working with disadvantaged children.
Recently the Science for Environment Foundation added a new Master trainer in the country, Sylwia Pawłowska-Sipak. Sylwia was trained in March, alongside 30 other participants, through an event sponsored by Aflatoun’s Erasmus+ project.
