Partner of the Week: Programa Oportunidades

Posted in Partner of The Week on June 9, 2020

Programa Oportunidades (Opportunities Programme) is a unique programme because it provides complementary high school education to young people that show academic excellence and have limited financial resources. Participants also receive scholarships and financial aid to pursue higher education and suitable career options, particularly in the fields of entrepreneurship and human rights.

Programa Oportunidades is implemented by Agape and the Gloria Kriete Foundation and it has a solid, organisational and administrative structure with an overall coverage of 24.8% of the national territory. The programme supports students for a period ranging from 5 to 8 years, leaving a lasting positive impact in their lives, education, health and families. The initiative opened its doors in 2007 and currently has two locations: San Salvador and Santa Ana. It has reached more than 2,600 young people.

Our partnership

Opportunities Programme integrates Aflatoun curricula as a complement to their own curriculum. Aflatoun and Aflateen are part of their financial education materials and provide content for subjects like English, mathematics, computing and programming, entrepreneurship and vocational guidance. Additionally, they provide financial education to ensure young people can continue their studies. Recipients participate in discussion groups and workshops, focused on the challenges they encounter as young adults. They have reached more than 1000 young people pursuing university studies and employability training.

Covid-19 Challenges and Responses

To meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Programa Oportunidades started an e-learning process. Not only that but they managed to provide devices and internet access to who do not have access to such at home. Interested in learning more about our partners?
