Aflatoun International is partnering with Solidaridad, Opportunity International,Fidelity Bank Plc, #AseshiUniversity and the Ghana Cocoa Board to start the MASO education programme for young cocoa farmers in Ghana. The programme makes part of the Youth Forward Initiative, in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation. Youth Forward projects are focused on improving the capacity of economically disadvantaged young people to find quality employment or start their own businesses in the growing agricultural and construction sectors

The programme will have a total reach of more than 80,000 young people over 5 years.

Aflatoun International adapted its Social and Financial Education curriculum for the project and provides training to local facilitators on youth centered teaching methodologies.

Using the Aflatoun International curriculum, young people (17 – 25 yrs) will be trained on a “Cocoa Academy”. Each Cocoa Academy will have also a model farm that will allow for the practical application of the skills received during the training. The students will receive education on best agricultural practices and numeracy. They also will acquire financial and social skills, receive training on business skills and are encouraged to develop business plans for their own farms.
